What he does at Pacific Throughput
Once our team has mapped how a process works in your office, Jeff designs the fix and builds it. That usually means connecting the software you already have, automating the steps people shouldn’t be doing by hand, and putting a person in front of anything that moves money. He builds in your accounts and documents every build, so your team owns it. Once it’s running, he measures it against the baseline our team took, the same way, so the before-and-after number is real. After launch he maintains it there: watching it, and fixing it when something upstream changes.
He runs the same kind of systems on our own back office: the contract-opportunity feed, the email sorting and the morning digest.
Background
Jeff spent nearly ten years in the U.S. Navy as an Electronics Technician. His first tour was aboard an amphibious assault ship, where he maintained HF, UHF and VHF radio, data and satellite communications systems and ran communications maintenance. The ship supported combat and humanitarian deployments, including relief work after Hurricane Katrina.
His last four years were at a Navy technical school, where he was the electronics subject-matter expert, engineering technician and instructor. He taught electronics to experienced technicians and built the training equipment the courses ran on. He brought circuit board design software, microcontroller programming and a CNC mill into the school’s shop, which let it design and make its own equipment instead of buying it. He also managed a $1.2 million budget.
In 2010 he started his own company out of his garage to take that work to a wider market. It builds specialized training equipment and delivers technical training to federal and public-safety customers, and he still runs it. He travels to customer sites around the world to teach hands-on classes. With his team he wrote a technical reference guide for the field, and he built and runs an online training platform for it.
Running a small manufacturer means living with the back-office work too: quotes, orders, purchasing, invoicing, email. Jeff knows what it costs when that work is slow, and he knows how to build the fix.
